Description:This is a review of the ocular side effects of a comprehensive subset of medications, chemicals, and herbals/supplements.

Purpose:According to the authors, the book is intended as a guide to help clinicians decide whether a visual problem is related to a chemical or medication. I am not aware of any other books that address a similar goal. Medications can have a variety of ocular side effects, and a comprehensive guide listing possible side effects is a valuable reference in clinical practice.

Audience:The book is targeted at "busy clinicians." It is certainly a valuable reference for ophthalmologists who wish to determine whether a patient's symptoms may be a lesser known side effect of a patient's medications (either ocular or systemic) . It is also particularly helpful for residents or students who may not be as familiar as experienced clinicians with medication-induced side effects.

Features:Basic pharmacologic principles, including drug delivery/toxicology and clinical methods for evaluating toxic ophthalmic side effects, begin the book. The main part of the book is composed of a list of medications organized by medication type (e.g.: anti-infectives, CNS drugs, GI agents, etc) . Assessment:This book stands alone (as far as I know) in presenting a systematic review of ocular side effects of medications. It is a high quality publication that will be a valuable reference for ophthalmologists.
